COP30 MEMO
LARGE-FORMAT EDITORIAL DESIGN | PRINT PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT | ASSEMBLY & DISTRIBUTION

Q&A designed the COP30 printed memo and accompanying notecard for Gates Ventures, visually transforming complex climate insights into a clear, narrative-driven communication piece. The memo was authored by a highly recognized global voice in climate and innovation, requiring a balance between a personal, letter-like tone and the authority expected for an audience of grantees, investors, and scientific partners. Q&A delivered a warm, editorial package that underscored the sophistication of the author’s voice while providing visual clarity and polish.
CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED: As the project evolved, the format and tone of the publication shifted to reflect changes in audience and distribution context. This required rethinking the form factor, paper choice, and binding approach while design development was already underway. Each decision had implications for cost, production timelines, and the end reader experience.
SOLUTIONS IMPLEMENTED: Q&A worked closely with our print partners to explore layout and production options in parallel with editorial refinement. Multiple paper dummies were produced to test scale, weight, texture, and how the design would perform across different paper stocks. These explorations informed adjustments to typography, pacing, and white space to ensure the final piece felt intentional, approachable, and aligned with the desired tone. By engaging production partners early and iterating collaboratively, we were able to adapt the design without sacrificing quality, schedule, or intent.
