Sir Ian McKellen recites a rare Shakespearean monologue.
It is said that the cycles of history don't so much repeat as rhyme. Here is Sir Ian McKellen on The Late Show reciting an Elizabethan role that amazingly he played on the London stage decades ago.
The play, itself "Sir Thomas More," was written by by Anthony Munday and Henry Chettle, but the scene in question and the revised manuscript was rewritten by William Shakespeare.
The scene depicts the lawyer, Sir Thomas More, attempting to quell an anti-immigration riot in London in 1517. And I think it's beautiful.
